Eliminating / Controlling Hazards:
If an existing or potential hazard to workers is identified during a hazard assessment, an
employer should take measures to:

2. If eliminating the hazard is not practical then the hazard MUST be controlled
If reasonably practicable, an employer shall eliminate or control a hazard through the use of:
1. Engineering controls
2. Only if engineering controls are not possible then the employer must use administrative controls to reduce the hazard to a level as low as reasonably achievable.

Managing the Control of Hazardous Energy
If samples are being collected off of conveyor belts this often puts workers in a situation where if the belt is started during the sampling process the worker may be injured.
If work is to be performed on machinery all hazardous energy that may pose a hazard to a worker should be isolated by activation of an energy-isolating device. The machine should be rendered inoperative in a manner that prevents its unintended activation.
